Reps hit back at Obasanjo

25 November 2016, 06:01

Abuja -The House of Representatives has fired back at former President Olusegun Obasanjo, describing the former President as the grand father of corruption in Nigeria, Punch reports.

The lower legislative chamber was reacting to allegations of corruption levelled against the House and its leadership at a lecture delivered in Lagos on Wednesday by the former President .

Obasanjo had during the event said the National Assembly had become “a den of corruption” controlled by “a gang of unarmed robbers.”

The former President also backed the campaign of Abdulmumin Jibrin, a whistleblowing lawmaker who was suspended in September.

But the Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Publicity Hon. Abdulrazak Namdas, in his regular weekly briefing on Thursday reeled out many corrupt atrocities allegedly perpetrated by Obasanjo.

Namdas said the reason Obasanjo would never like the members of the National Assembly was the fact that they foiled his third term ambition in 2007 after taking his money and displaying it publicly to put him to shame

The House according to Premium Times also noted that Obasanjo had a way of pulling down those in government, anytime he feels he is no longer in their good books.

The lawmakers said the “greatly corrupt” and “morally bankrupt” former leader is effectively plotting to derail the government of Muhammadu Buhari in the same manner he allegedly did to successive presidents since 1979.
