12 September 2016, 17:01

Lagos - The police have deployed armed undercover operatives at Eid prayer grounds nationwide to thwart potential terror plots to attack places of worship, where large crowds are expected to gather, Punch reports.

The operatives were deployed as additional security to the regular security personnel who safeguard places of worship.

The police and the Department of State Services warned previously on Wednesday that extremists were plotting to attack approximately 11 states in the country between Monday and Tuesday.

Security agencies acting on the security intelligence called for the postponement of the Edo State Governorship election which was to be held on Saturday.

"The operation procedure for the Sallah involves the deployment of undercover operatives, who will blend with the Muslim faithful while on high alert to guard against any attack at the Eid grounds. Besides, personnel will also be deployed in all vulnerable and dark spots, a security source said.
