Yola - Scores of suspected terrorists were feared dead on Tuesday during a fierce gun battle with Nigerian troops in Gulak town of Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, reports Punch.

The insurgents invaded the town in their numbers and attacked the military formation located in the town.

The terrorists initially succeeded in dislodging the troops and burnt down the military armoury at the formation.

The military later called for reinforcement and overpowered the Boko Haram fighters.

Lawal Kanuri, the village head of Krichinga, revealed that the insurgents controlled the town for hours before military reinforcement from nearby Madagali helped the soldiers to dislodge them, killing many of them in the process.

Kanuri added that as a result of the gun duel between the troops and the insurgents that lasted for close to six hours, one soldier was allegedly killed while many Boko Haram fighters lost their lives.
