Senate denies rejecting Magu

20 December 2016, 06:01

Abuja - The Senate has denied rejecting the nomination of Ibrahim Magu as Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The Senate leader, Mohammed Ali Ndume made the clarification in an interview with State House correspondents on Monday.

He spoke after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ndume according to Premium Times insisted that the Senate only stepped down Magu’s screening last Thursday pending when security issues concerning him are cleared.

He added that the Senate would confer with Buhari on his next line of action on Magu in view of the security report against him.

News 24 had reported that the Senate rejected Magu's nomination based on security report.

The Senate, however, said it may reconsider its refusal to confirm the appointment of Magu, if President Buhari provides the necessary explanation for it to do so.
