Senate describes NNPC's unbundling illegal

09 March 2016, 16:15

Abuja - The Senate has faulted the unbundling of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC by the federal government.

The Senate Chief Whip, Senator Olusola Adeyeye on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday described the exercise as illegal as the federal government did not consult the National Assembly to repeal the enabling law that set up the organisation, before breaking it into different components.

Following the unbundling of the corporation, organised labour comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG and Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Wednesday shut down the operations of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) nationwide.
