Senate drops Buhari's nominee already cleared

28 November 2016, 11:28

Abuja - The Senate has dropped a nominee for the post of a non-executive commissioner on the governing board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), after clearing him, Vanguard reports.

The nominee, Okoi Ofem Obono-Obla from Cross River state was one of the nominees sent to the upper chamber by President Muhammadu Buhari before the Senate made a dramatic turn.

In a letter to President Buhari dated Tuesday, November 22 and signed by Senate President Bukola Saraki, Obono-Obla was listed as one of the three whose nominations were rejected by the Senate according to Naij.

Obono-Obla, who is the special assistant to President Buhari on prosecution but attached to the ministry of justice, is however not taking the Senate’s decision well.

The dropped nominee has described his ordeal as back-door removal.
