Senate summons Justice Minister over forgery charges against Saraki, Ekweremadu

21 June 2016, 16:32

Abuja - The Senate on Tuesday summoned the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Mallami, over the Senate Rules forgery suit, reports Premium Times.

The Senate wants the AGF to explain and justify his action with evidence and why it does constitute gross abuse of his office.

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu have been dragged to a federal high Court in Abuja over the forgery.

The two principal officers were supposed to be arraigned on Tuesday.

The arraignment was, however, stalled following the inability of court officials to serve the two presiding officers of Senate  with the charges, reports News 24

The summoning of Mallami was sequel to a motion sponsored by Senator Dino Melaye (APC, Kogi West) over the forgery suit.

Melaye said the executive arm of government plans to enthrone one man rule.

Six senators, who spoke in support of the motion, said it was time to defend democracy.
