Abuja - The International Federation of Women Lawyers has condemned the comment by Senator, Ali Ndume, advising men to marry more than one wife.
It can be recalled that Ndume had earlier this week encouraged his fellow Senators and Nigerian men in general to express their love for women by not only befriending them as lovers but marrying them as wives.
Ndume said on the floor of the Senate: “I urge men to marry more than one wife….The first care of a woman is marriage.”

But, in a statement signed by Inime Aguma, its Country Vice President, on Friday, FIDA said the senator’s proposal was not only demeaning to women but clearly attempt to portray them as “sex objects”.
It also faulted Ndume for mentioning that the Holy Bible supports polygamy “as the wording of Mathew 19:4-6 refers to the union of one man and woman to the exclusion of any other being”.
It concluded that: “FIDA Nigeria stands with the female senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and say ‘No’ to this degrading motion moved by Senator Ali Ndume.”
