Soldier killed, army general survives Boko Haram ambush

Maiduguri - Suspected members of the Boko Haram terrorists have ambushed the convoy of Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC), 7 Division Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Victor Ezugwu.

The convoy was on its way to Bama, Borno State to visit troops.

Confirming the report Acting Director Army Public Relations Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman said a soldier was killed and two others injured.

He added that the troops were able to clear the ambush, killing some of the terrorists and recovered vehicle and weapons from them.

“The recovered items include a Toyota Hilux vehicle, two AK-47 rifles and several ammunition,” Usman said.

The Army spokesman said the Acting GOC had continued his operational visit to Bama, while the body of the late soldier and the wounded had been evacuated to Maiduguri.

He said the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, had also spoken with the GOC.

“The Nigerian Army wish to reiterate its unalloyed commitment and determination to continue to clear the remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists  wherever they might be hiding,” Usman added.
