Soldiers reveal arrest of 92 Fulani herdsmen in Abuja

Abuja - Soldiers of the Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army have revealed the arrest of 92 armed Fulani herdsmen in Abuja, Punch has reported.

Captain Bashir Jajira, Assistant Director of Army PR for the Brigade, stated that 32 of the suspects had been arrested at a military checkpoint between Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Nasarawa State.

In addition, troops have recovered guns, cartridges, cutlasses, knives and other weapons, along with hard drugs, on the suspects.

The herdsmen are reported to have told the soldiers that they were on their way to recover stolen cows.

The suspects have since been handed over to police for prosecution.

The development follows just a week after President Muhammadu Buhari ordered the deployment of military to regions of the country where clashes have broken out between herdsmen and farmers.
