17 November 2016, 13:22

Abuja - Striking Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, Naij reports.

The union said the minister is insensitive and lacks commitment to reversing the dwindling Nigerian education sector.

The body said in a press statement signed by the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, Chairperson of the union, Dr Ndamisa Mohammed Attaahiru said the ongoing strike wouldn’t have been necessary if the minister has been alive to his responsibility.

ASUU added that Adamu failed to engage with the union on its repeated demands and correspondences.

The union on Monday declared an industrial action against the federal government according to News24.

The one-week industrial action commenced on Tuesday according to a circular signed by its president, Biodun Ogunyemi.

The umbrella body for lecturers in universities said the action was to force the government to meet meet the agreement it signed with lecturers in November 2013.
