Sultan defends herdsmen over Plateau monarch's murder

21 July 2016, 10:05

Abuja - The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa'ad Abubakar, has come out in defense of herdsmen while making his commentary on the killing of Chief Lazarus Agai, the Saf Ron Kulere of Plateau State.

According to a Naij report, the top traditional leader was killed while on his way back from his farm when unknown men opened fire on him, his wife and security aide. All three people were killed in the attack.

Local youths immediately took to the streets in protest, claiming that the murder was carried out by Fulani herdsmen who were enraged by the monarch's opposition to the Federal Government's plans to create grazing reserves within the area.

Abubakar, who visited Plateau on Wednesday, has kicked back at the suspicions, claiming that residents should not jump to conclusions until investigations into the matter have concluded.

The Sultan has since called on security operatives to man the area and ensure that any bad elements within the community are brought to book over their crimes.
