Tension hits PDP as Gov. Fayose is placed under house arrest

18 August 2016, 07:31

Abuja - Outspoken Ekiti State Governor has been placed under house arrest, barring him from attending the People's Democratic Party (PDP) Convention.

According to a Naij report, Fayose was stopped by security operatives after they blocked the entrance to the old Presidential lodge in Port Harcourt, where he is currently lodged.

In a statement released by his media aide, Leye Olayinka, Fayose is alleged to have pleaded with operatives to let him leave the residence but was denied access out of the property.

“I was under ‘house arrest’ in PH. I was not at the national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) because I was placed under ‘house arrest’ at the Old Presidential Lodge, Rivers state Government House where I lodged,” Fayose bemoaned, Vanguard reports.

Francis Odesanya, Commissioner for the State Police, has since refuted the claims, stating that he had no knowledge of the house arrest and that operatives were merely providing security to the Governor during his stay.
