Terror attack: FG 'heightens security at hotels, airports, malls'

15 March 2016, 06:40

Abuja – The federal government has reportedly beefed up security at prominent hotels, shopping malls and airports following the terror attack on Ivory Coast that claimed 16 lives on Sunday.

At least 16 civilians and two soldiers were killed on Sunday when gunmen attacked the Ivory Coast resort town of Grand-Bassam.

Reports indicated that the attack on the beach resort by an al-Qaeda affiliate was the latest sign the group shifting its focus to soft targets associated with foreigners in an effort to destabilise economies and gain the group credibility among jihadis in its rivalry with the so-called Islamic State group (ISIS).

According to Punch, the Nigerian government has moved to "heighten" security at hotels and other strategic locations in the federal captal territory to thwart what was described as "any copy-cat" attack.
