Three killed as NNPC fuel station goes up in flames in Kaduna

24 April 2016, 19:51

Abuja - Three people are feared to have been killed following a blaze that engulfed a Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) accredited fuel station in Kaduna State.

According to Naij, the fire raged for over three hours after it was sparked while a fuel tanker was discharging product at the station.

“One of the compartments of the tanker was leaking fuel while in the process of discharge. I rushed to the scene with a bucket to assist as the manager of the fuel station uses rag to block the leakage.

“Unfortunately, the fire was triggered from the fuel that flowed on the main road, which engulfed eight cars and two commercial buses on queue; the tanker and the fuel station got burnt as well as a girl and two men were killed,” said Alhaji Babangida Kinkinau, owner of a shop near the fuel station.

An official at the Kaduna State Fire Service has confirmed the deaths, adding that 10 vehicles had also been destroyed in the inferno.

The remote cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained.
