Tompolo urges Court of Appeal to void arrest warrant

22 February 2016, 06:19

Abuja – A former Niger Delta militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo has urged the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal to void the warrant for arrest issued against him a few weeks ago, Punch reports.

A warrant of arrest was issued against him on January 14 and February 8 by Justice Ibrahim Buba of a Federal High Court in Lagos.

This came after Tompolo failed to appear in court to answer to fraud charges of N45.9bn preferred against him and nine others by the anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday authorised the EFCC to seize some assets belonging to Tompolo.

Justice Buba ordered the anti-graft agency to take possession of the concerned assets pending when Tompolo makes himself available to answer charges against him.

The judge said if Tompolo failed to appear within three months of the order, the Federal Government may proceed to auction the assets and other properties.
