Troops rescue hundreds after Borno operations

Abuja - Troops have rescued more than 300 civilians in an operation that has led to the killing of five suspected members of the Boko Haram in Borno State.

Several other suspected insurgents of the terror group have been arrested.

Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, said patrol teams of 254 Task Force Battalion carried out a clearance operation at Kubwa village and arrested two suspected Boko Haram terrorists hiding among the community.

Meanwhile, in their efforts, troops of 7 Division Garrison, 112 Battalion, Army Headquarters Support Group and elements of Armed Forces Special Forces in Mafa and Dikwa Local Governments Areas, killed five suspected terrorists.

The troops also rescued 350 people held hostages by the terrorists. Among those rescued were five girls abducted from Cameroon.

Usman said army leaders commended troops for the successful joint clearance operations at Kirawa and Ngoshe, conducted with Cameroonian forces.
