Two former Ministers, seven others charged with $1.6bn fraud

Abuja - The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday filed nine charges bordering on alleged mismanagement of $1 616 690 656.78 Malabu Oil cash against two former ministers, Dan Etete of the Petroleum ministry and Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation Mohammed Bello Adoke (SAN) and seven others.

The seven others charged alongside Etete and Adoke are the Chairman A.A. Oil, Aliyu Abubakar, Malabu Oil and Gas Limited, Rocky Top Resource Nig. Ltd, Imperial Union Limited, Novel Property and Development Co. Limited, Group Construction Limited, and Megatech Engineering Limited.

The accused were arraigned for their alleged mismanagement of the fund from the oil deal, reports Sun

The offence was said to have been committed on or about 24 August 2011.

The suspects, according to papers filed by the EFCC before a Federal High Court in Abuja, connived with others to defraud the federal government by diverting the huge sums to themselves through some individuals and companies

The nine-count charge according to Thisday was filed by a team of lawyers, including Johnson Ojogbane, C.C. Nduese, H.M. Mohammed, and Victor Ukagwu.

No date has been filed for the arraignment of the suspects, some of whom are outside the country.
