Two killed in pro-Biafran agitators, soldiers’ clash

19 January 2016, 07:50

Umuahia - Two members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), were allegedly shot dead in Aba, the commercial capital of Abia State by the military during their protest over the continued detention of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu, reports Punch.

The protesters had defied several warnings by the state government and security agencies against protesting the continued detention of Kanu, who is also the Director of Radio Biafra.

The protesters marched through major roads in the city, chanting solidarity songs in support of their detained leader.

Trouble, however, started when members of the group attempted to block the Aba-Enugu Expressway.

They were stopped from blocking the road by a combined team of military and police operatives.

The protesters regrouped to make bonfires, which attracted the presence of soldiers and policemen again.

In an attempt to disperse the protesters, the security operatives opened fire and two persons were reportedly hit by stray bullets.
