Two policemen, nine others die in pro-Biafra protest in Anambra

03 December 2015, 12:31

Awka - The one-month long pro-Biafra protests turned bloody on Wednesday as 11 people were reportedly killed in Onistha, Anambra State, reports Thisday.

Among the dead were two policemen and 9 members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Trouble started when members of the group and Joint Military Task Force (JTF) comprising the army, police, navy and the civil defence clashed at the Niger Bridge head in Onitsha.

The cause of the clash was the insistence by the  JTF that the Onitsha-Asaba road barricaded by the IPOB who said they would protest for three days until the Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu is released be opened.

Irked by the stubborn disposition of the pro- Biafra agitators not to open the bridge, the JTF opened fire at the IPOB members.

At the end of the clash, about nine members of IPOB activists were allegedly killed by the joint task force.

Miscreants on hearing that some people had been shot dead by the JTF, started another protest.

The miscreants in the process went on rampage destroying everything on sight.
