Lagos - The Federal Government of Nigeria has confirmed the release of 21 Chibok school girls after 900 days in captivity.

News24 earlier broke the news of the release of the girls.

Senior Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on media and publicity, Shehu Garba confirmed the release on his twitter handle on Thursday.

“It is confirmed that 21 of the missing Chibok Girls have been released and are in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS.

“The release of the girls, in a limited number is the outcome of negotiations between the administration and the Boko Haram brokered by the International Red Cross and the Swiss government. The negotiations will continue.” Garba wrote on his twitter handle.

Over 200 school girls were kidnapped by Boko Haram in April 2014. Some of them have reportedly died, some reportedly married away and the rest have been held by the dreaded group.
