US mourns Chibok suicide bomb victims

28 January 2016, 17:04Emeka Okonkwo

Abuja - The United States Embassy in Abuja has condemned the multiple suicide attacks suspected members of the Boko Haram sect carried out against the Chibok community on Wednesday.

At least 14 people were killed and 24 injured following the bomb attacks in the small town in the terror-prone Borno State.

The US Embassy extended its condolences to the families of the victims.

“The United States remains committed to supporting Nigeria’s fight against these senseless acts of terror,” the Embassy stated.

The attacks evoked memories of April 2014 when 276 female students were kidnapped from the Government Secondary School in Chibok.

The Boko Haram, an Islamic Jihadist and terrorist organisation based in the Northeast, claimed responsibility.

Local efforts and assistance from some foreign countries to rescue the minors have not yielded success.
