WATCH: Army officers, Shiites members clash in Zaria

Abuja - As Nigerians continue to seek the truth of what led to the face-off between the Nigerian army and members of the Shiite Muslim sect in Zaria, Kaduna State, a video of the incident has surfaced on the social media.

The video shows senior army officers appealing to Shiite members who barricaded a road in Zaria to leave the road for the convoy of the Chief of Army Staff , Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai to pass.

An encounter later ensued that led to the killing of seven people shortly afterwards.

There has been conflicting reports on the death toll which has been alleged in several quarters to range from 60 to 100 corpses.

The clashes have spawned protests in Nigeria’s restive north and even abroad–with India and Iran showing solidarity for the Shiite brethren in Nigeria.
