Why court failed to unfreeze Fayose's account

05 July 2016, 08:27

Abuja - The Federal High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti yesterday failed to unfreeze the bank accounts of Governor Ayodele Fayose as it adjourned hearing in the case involving the governor and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Vanguard reports.

Fayose's accounts were frozen after accusations by the EFCC that Fayose had grossly mishandled funds and was receiving financial backing from Zenith Bank when appointed as governor.

The court adjourned the case until September 30 on the request of Fayose's counsel after wanting enough time to respond to issues raised by the EFCC after an initial request to unfreeze Fayose's account.

News24 Nigeria reported that officials of the EFCC has uncovered properties Fayose bought in Abuja and Lagos State since he became governor in 2014.

EFCC investigators stated that they had identified six properties with purchasing papers that were skillfully prepared to deceive security agencies.
