Why we are not talking to Avengers - FG

09 July 2016, 07:57

Abuja - The Federal Government has said that it refuses to hold a dialogue with the Niger Delta Avengers as it feels that the militants are not freedom fighters but acting in their personal interests to fill their own pockets, Vanguard reports.

Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo said that FG had finalised plans to put an end to pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta region while condemning the actions of militants who claimed responsibility for the recent attacks.

He cited the continuous vandalism of pipelines as the reason for the epileptic power supply in the country as well as the inability of state governor's to pay workers' salaries due to the low revenue generated in the oil sector.

News24 Nigeria reported that the Avengers recently launched new attacks on major oil and gas installations in the Delta region.

The oil facilities belonged to Chevron, the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
