Youth propose dialogue with Niger Delta Avengers

13 May 2016, 20:38

Lagos - The Niger Delta Youth Coalition (NDYC) has advised the Federal Government to exercise caution when approaching militants threatening mayhem in the region.

National Co-ordinator of NDYC, Emmanuel Ogba, said if caution is not applied, things could spiral out of control.

The advice comes amid threats by the Niger Delta Avengers to carry out attacks in the region in protest against pollution by oil companies.

“If the group goes on to sustain its threat of attacking the oil facilities, the nation would be worse off and the environment of the Niger Delta, as well as the innocent communities that might be smoked up in course of the military onslaught, would suffer more,” said Ogba.

Ogba however appealed to the Niger Delta Avengers to suspend its attack and consider the fate of the people in the region.

He recommended dialogue.

“A military onslaught in Niger Delta communities might likely be counter-productive,” said Ogba.
