Abuja - Suspected cattle rustlers and armed
bandits have evaded arrest by the Nigerian Army and Police in Zamfara State.
Troops of 1 Brigade and the law enforces have carried out a
joint clearance operation in Maru Local Government Area of the state following
the prevalence of crime.
This is in continuation of the efforts of getting rid of the
menace of cattle rustling, armed banditry and other criminality in the country
generally and in the north west geo-political region, under the auspices of
Operation Sharan Daji.

“Although most of the targeted suspected cattle rustlers and
armed bandits have escaped, the joint team recovered substantial quantity of
arms and ammunitions in the area,” Army spokesperson, Sani Kukashea, Usman
He added that some of the criminals escaped with gunshot
“The team is still combing the area for such persons.
Usman advised people in Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina and Kaduna
States to report to the security agencies any suspicious people especially
those with gunshot wounds.
