Zamfara governor says only Muslims were killed in blasphemy killings

25 August 2016, 12:21

Zamfara - Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari has stated that the eight people killed over alleged blasphemy against Islam in the state were Muslims, Nation reports.

He explained that the murder of the eight persons at Talata-Mafara over alleged blasphemy against Islam was caused by false alarm.

The governor, who spoke to newsmen after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, described the act as unnecessary and ‘act of the devil.’

Eight students were burnt to death by a mob on Monday at Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Talata Mafara, Zamfara state, following alleged blasphemy against Prophet Muhammed by a student of the college according to News24.

The incident occurred when a male student was alleged to have committed blasphemy during an exchange of words with his friend, a Muslim adherent, which caused tension in the school.

When the accused saw the danger to his life, he ran to a house to hide himself.

However, his assailants forcefully gained entrance and set the house ablaze, killing their target and all the seven people inside
