130 INEC officials face prosecution over bribery allegations

Gombe- The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to prosecute 130 officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over their alleged involvement in N73 million bribery, reports Daily Post

The money was said to have been used to bribe the officials during the 2015 general elections in Gombe, Adamawa and Taraba states.

The N73 million has already been recovered from the INEC staff. Head of operation, Gombe zonal office of EFCC, Aminu Ado Aliyu, said the 130 INEC officials allegedly collected bribes to compromise the elections.

A breakdown of the affected INEC staff shows that Gombe State has 26 staff involved; Adamawa has 86 staff while Taraba has 18.

Aliyu also revealed that the commission has recovered N183,590,000 from politicians within the zone as part of funds illegally sourced and used in prosecuting 2015 general elections.
