Abuja - The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will be curtail the spending of political parties during the campaign season for the 2015 general elections national commissioner of the INEC Mohammad Wali said,PremiumTimes reports .
The expenditure on the campaign trail can get out of hand easily as the donations to parties are done in secret, therefore there is no way the INEC can keep track of what candidates are spending. This is why a commisionhas been set up, Wali said. The commissioner was also somewhat disappointed by the fact that INEC did not have the power to arrest individuals who exceeded the amount that they are stipulated. He said it (over-spending) was a criminal offence, but that only the police had the power to do so.
When asked how the commision would keep track of the money spent, Wali said that international partners were being called upon to assist with tracking finances.
