2015: PDP governorship aspirant promises unity

01 July 2014, 11:07

Akwa Ibom - A governorship aspirant in Akwa Ibom, Ekpenyong Ntekim, on Monday promised to promote harmony and unity among the sub-ethnic groups in the state if elected governor.

Ntekim, who is the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, said this at a meeting with the Council of Oron Traditional Rulers at Oron Civic Centre.

The aspirant, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said he would form an all-inclusive government that would cater for the interests of the various groups and people if elected.

Ntekim said his aspiration was based on his conviction in the unity and development of the state.

He appealed to traditional rulers to support his aspiration, and promised not to disappoint them.

He said it was the prayer of the traditional rulers that the next governor of the state should be of an Oron extraction.

Oron is the third largest sub-ethnic group in the state, while the largest group of Ibibio had produced Ex-Governor Obong Victor Attah in 1999.
