05 November 2014, 20:20

Benin City - At least 302 aspirants from the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress in Edo State have declared their interest to vie for 36 parliamentary seats available in the state in the 2015 general elections.

Nine persons would compete for tickets in the APC primaries to run for the three senatorial seats, while 11 aspirants, including a woman, would jostle for the tickets in the PDP.

While 30 contenders have emerged for the House of Representatives seats in the APC, 41 aspirants have indicated their interests to vie for the seats on the platform of the PDP.

For the state assembly elections, 117 aspirants have picked the nominations forms under the APC to represent their respective constituencies in the Edo State House of Assembly, while the 94 contenders will vie for tickets under the PDP in the 24-member house of assembly election in the state.

The APC State Chairman, Anselm Ojezua, attributed the number of aspirants under the APC to the party’s popularity among the people of the state.
