Imo - Mr Collins Nwachukwu, Action Congress of Nigeria chieftain in Imo, has said that the merger plans between the party and Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) is feasible.
Nwachukwu, who is the former secretary of the party in Imo, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt on Friday.
He said that plans had already been concluded for the merger, which would be beneficial to the average Nigerian.
``ACN and CPC merger is 99 per cent feasible, it is the desire of many Nigerians to moderate the excesses of the ruling party,’’ the party chieftain said.
Nwachukwu explained that it was only a democratic process such as the merger of ``performing parties like ACN and CPC’’ that could bring about the desired change.
The party chieftain said that there were also plans to include All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) in the merger for a broader outlook.
According to him, good governance is the right of the people and it is the belief of ACN that such right cannot be negotiated.
He described the party as an embodiment of democratic principles which, he said, was being demonstrated in Lagos and other ACN controlled states.
Nwachukwu gave the assurance that the merger would bring about unprecedented dividends of democracy to the people.
He, however, said that the primary aim for the merger was to ``dethrone undemocratic examples’’ and enthrone true democracy through responsive and responsible government.
The party chieftain called on Nigerians to support the merger which, according to him, is a roadmap to good governance.
