Abuja - The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has overruled the suspension of an official by the Rivers State Executive Committee.
A statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, said the action violates the party's constitution.
It said that going by the ACN Constitution, no state executive committee could suspend any national officer of the party.
"In view of this, the status quo remains and we enjoined all our members to allow peace to reign.
"If anyone has any grievances, the constitution of the party is clear on what to do on threatening to sanction any member who fails to adhere to the party's stand on the suspension,'' it said.
The statement warned its members to desist from rumour mongering that was capable of tarnishing the image of the national leadership of the party.
It further warned that disciplinary action would be taken against members found to be deliberately spreading such rumour.
