APC calls for the recounting of ballot papers in Gombe

07 August 2015, 13:11

Gombe - The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State has urged the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in the state to allow for the recounting of ballot papers used in the last governorship election, reports Daily Trust.

The party said the request was to authenticate discrepancies and  the actual number of votes cast during the gubernatorial election..

Counsel to the APC, Akintola Adeniyi at the tribunal sitting on Thursday urged the court to order the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to produce the said ballot papers for a recount in the presence of all parties.

The PDP, however, objected to the request, noting that the ballot papers have not been tendered as exhibit before the tribunal.

The tribunal dismissed the application and sustained the objection of the PDP.

The APC candidate, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, is challenging the election of Gombe State Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo.
