APC group insists on Gbajabiamila as House Leader

21 July 2015, 11:59

Abuja - The leadership crisis rocking the House of Representatives over the appointment of principal officers on Monday deepened as the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers loyal to the defeated Speakership candidate, Femi Gbajabiamila have rejected the zoning formula proposed by Speaker Yakubu Dogara, reports Thisday.

The lawmakers under the aegis of the the APC Loyalists’ Group insisted that it is either Gbajabiamila gets the House leadership post or there will be no deal.

The group in a letter addressed to the National Chairman of the party, John Oyegun, insisted that the party’s position on the sharing of the principal offices must be obeyed.

Dogara had last Thursday written to Oyegun notifying him of his decision to zone the position of Majority Leader to North-West; Chief Whip to South-South, Deputy Leader to North-Central and Deputy Whip to South- East.

Dogara’s stand is against the party’s arrangement that Gbajabiamila from South-West be made leader, Pally Iriase from South-South be named Chief Whip, while Deputy Leader should go to Alhassan Ado Doguwa from North-West.
