Gwagwalada - The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT, on Tuesday, conducted peaceful ward congresses across the 10 wards in the area.
The Chairman State Congress Committee, Abubakar Shaihu, who went round the wards in the council, described the exercise as peaceful and successful.
Shaihu said that different positions and responsibilities were being conferred on the elected members of the party.
He noted that the Local Government congress would come up on April 12 and necessary logistics had been put in place to ensure a peaceful exercise.
He called on members of the party to elect creditable leaders that would move the country’s interest forward in 2015.
Some officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were seen in various wards in the council supervising the congress.
Hamamatu Manu, an INEC official from the legal department of the commission, who was seen monitoring the exercise in Kutunku ward in Gwagwalada, confirmed that the exercise was peaceful.
She described the conduct of the exercise as being in accordance with the guidelines of the commission.
Usman Yahaya, the Secretary Gwagwalada Area Council, attributed the success of congress to the cooperation of all members.
According to him, equity and justice is the watch word of the party.
The congress, which was initially scheduled for April 5 was moved to Tuesday (today) due to some logistic constraints.
