APC senators snub governors, party leaders

25 June 2015, 10:21

Abuja - Some senators of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday continued their regime of defiance by ignoring nominees suggested by the party and instead going ahead to pick their choices for vacant principal positions, reports New Telegraph.

The senators rejected three of the four candidates nominated by the party to occupy the offices.

The APC had in a letter written by its National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, addressed to Senate President, Bukola Saraki, asked the lawmakers to name Senator Ahmad Lawan as Senate leader, George Akume as his deputy, Sola Adeyeye as Chief Whip and Abu Ibrahim as Deputy Whip.

The APC governors had also asked the senators to respect the supremacy of the party by picking the candidates of the party.

The senators, however, decided to organize mock elections among the zonal caucuses.

After the elections, three of the party’s candidates  lost out to their rivals.

The only party nominee that scaled through was Senator Olusola Adeyeye from Osun State.

The South West caucus endorsed him as the Chief Whip of the 8th Senate.
