Adamawa Govt sues for peace

07 January 2013, 08:02

Yola, Jan. 6, 2013 (NAN) The Adamawa Government on Sunday appealed to the people of the state to embrace peace and live in harmony with one another.

Alhaji Aminu Iyawa, the state Commissioner for Rural and Infrastructural Development, made the appeal on behalf of the government in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola. The appeal followed recent attacks by unknown gunmen in some local government areas of the state.

He expressed concern over the recent attacks and killing of innocent citizens and urged the people to be calm and continue with their normal activities. According to him, the state government received a report that the attackers sneaked into the state from other parts of the country to commit the atrocities.

"Few days ago, the U.S. issued a release warning its citizens about visiting some states in the country due to the insecurity situation and Adamawa was excluded. "And from all indications, there are some people who are not happy that Adamawa is not among the no go areas’’, Iyawa said.

He maintained that Adamawa had a record of peaceful co-existence among its various ethnic groups. The commissioner added that the state government had taken adequate measures to curb the insecurity situation in the state.

Iyawa, who is also the Chairman Commissioners' Forum in the state, said that those disturbing the peace of the state should be regarded as enemies of development in the state in particular and Nigeria in general.

He, therefore, appealed to the citizens of the state to ensure peace for the sustainable development of the state.
