Airhiavbere weighs PDP election prospects

22 August 2013, 07:38Augustine Osayande

Abuja - The losing People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in last year's Edo governorship election, Charles Airhiavbere, is confident of the ruling party's chances in the next general election despite the challenge the new All People Congress (APC) poses.

Airhiavbere, who was speaking at the National Secretariat of the PDP in Abuja, said the party still controlled about two thirds of the elective structures in the country and was capable of retain the leadership of the nation.

"Unlike the opposition APC, the PDP is a truly national political party which accommodates Nigerians across all regions and religions and is not owned by one person or group of persons. It is Nigerians that own it," he said.

Airhiavbere further commended the transformation drive President Goodluck Jonathan led, saying it was bearing fruits despite enormous challenges.

“The mid-term score card of the President has proved to even the cynics, his iron cast determination to better the lots of Nigerians.

"With the current efforts at job creation, youth’s unemployment would soon be adequately tackled," he added.

He however warned that the Party must sustain the strategic re-engineering of its structures to make them defeat prevailing challenges.
