Lagos – The All Progressives Congress in the Akwa Ibom State has hit back at People’s Democratic Party senator, Godswill Akpabio, over alleged allegations made against the Federal Government and the Department of State Services (DSS).
APC alleged Akpabio claimed the DSS had either intimidated or arrested the Resident Electoral Commissioners, Electoral Officers and other senior officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) the state as well as Rivers and Abia.
It was reported the legislator alleged these officials were being “daily arrested, their families and associates hounded and judicial officers involved in election tribunals intimidated and questioned using trumped up petitions bordering on corruption.”
APC has denied the allegations as “false” and “damaging.”

“There is no provision in our laws that allows the DSS to meddle in a partisan manner in the political electoral process,” Ita Awak, Akwa Ibom State APC Publicity Secretary, said.
Awak said APC in Akwa Ibom State do not find the allegations strange.
Because this is his nature, Senator Akpabio is simply behaving true to type in his latest desperate attempt to tarnish the integrity of the DSS and its new Director General, Mallam Lawal Daura.”
Itak said it was ironic that as a governor, Akpabio used the DSS in Akwa Ibom State to intimidate and persecute elders, perceived political opponents and journalists.
If by his latest grandstanding and audacious attacks he is hoping to push his luck further by frightening and intimidating President Muhammadu Buhari and the new DSS, he must be reminded that "Change" is here and nemesis beckons.”
