Akwa Ibom Governor, PDP appeal tribunal’s ruling

02 November 2015, 15:31

Uyo - Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State and the Peoples ‎Democratic Party (PDP) have appealed the judgment of the state election petition tribunal which ordered fresh elections in 18 out of the 31 Local Government Areas in the state, reports Vanguard.

In separate appeals, Emmanuel and PDP have asked the Court of Appeal in Abuja to set aside part of the tribunal’s decision which nullified elections  in 18 local government areas, LGAs, in the state.

They also asked ‎the appellate court to uphold the results of the governorship election conducted on April 11, 2015 in the local government areas listed above.

They faulted the tribunal’s judgment on the grounds that the petitioners – Umana Okon Umana, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) – did not plead any fact to support his allegation that voters in the 18 local government areas were disenfranchised.

While the PDP raised 20 grounds of appeal; Emamnuel raised two grounds.
