Abuja – The Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has passed a vote of confidence on the State Governor, Godswill Akpabio.
Party members hailed the premier for setting the pace for good leadership in the country.
This paves way for Akpabio to stand for re-election when his term expires next year.
The endorsement was part of resolutions reached during an enlarged caucus meeting with the governor during the weekend at the Government House in Uyo.
The State Chairman of the party, Obong Paul Ekpo, said that the party faithful was impressed with the developmental strides of Governor Akpabio through his Uncommon Transformation programme, which had improved the lives of the citizens.
He described the governor as a model of good governance in Nigeria.
Ekpo thanked Akpabio for his contribution for ensuring the stability and progress of the PDP at the national level.
He said although some members of the party in other states were defecting to other opposition parties, this would not affect the success and victory of the PDP during the 2015 general elections.
He charged followers of the party in the state to remain steadfast in their support to the party.
More than 3 000 chieftains and stalwarts of the party from the 31 local government areas in the state including past and present political office holders attended the meeting.
Meanwhile, Akpabio promised the people of Akwa Ibom that there would be no imposition of candidates.
He pledges to work collectively with the people to ensure that their wishes and aspirations prevailed.
“There will be a level playing field for aspirants to take part in the election,” he said.
