Akwa Ibom tribunal orders INEC to move election materials to Abuja

25 June 2015, 13:24

Abuja - The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been ordered to move all the electoral materials used for the April 11, 2015 governorship election in Akwa Ibom State to the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, reports Punch.

The order was handed over to the commission on Wednesday by the Akwa Ibom State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja.

The move is to enable the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate in the poll, Umana Umana, to‎ inspect them.
The materials are to be moved to Abuja within 10 days.

Chairman of the tribunal, Sadiq Umar in his ruling at Wednesday's sitting also ordered security agencies to provide adequate protection for the transportation of the electoral materials from Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, to Abuja.

Umana and the APC had filed their petition before the tribunal seeking the nullification of the victory of Governor Udom Emmanuel of the Peoples Democratic Party at the poll.
