Amaechi accused of useless election spend

23 June 2014, 16:22

Rivers - The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  accused the state governor, Rotimi Amaechi, of spending N5 billion from state coffers on the Ekiti state election.

Amaechi was among the top All Progressive Congress (APC) party members that were prevented from entering Ekiti state during last Saturday's governorship election.

Although the election has been concluded with the PDP candidate, Ayo Fayose upstaging the APC incumbent governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, the PDP in Rivers State said Amaechi used the N5billion to try to bribe Ekiti residents to vote for the APC.

"The people of Ekiti have by their action,  expressed their opinion which clearly humiliates the like of Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and the APC, who squandered N5 billion Rivers Tax payers money on the election," PDP stated.

The party said that Fayose’s victory had further established that APC is a failed party on arrival in Nigeria.

"The APC lacks democratic principles and operates as a private enterprise of former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu."

The state chairman of the party, Felix Obuah, congratulated Fayose, on his victory.

“We also commend the good people of Ekiti State for voting out of power the All Progressives Congress government, by resisting to be influenced by the billions of naira earmarked for electoral fraud by the leadership, including that of Governor Amaechi," he said.

Obuah applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for ensuring a fair, just and violent- free election in Ekiti State.
