Appeal Court upholds Gov Bagudu’s election

Birnin Kebbi - The Court of Appeal in Sokoto has upheld the election of Kebbi State governor, Atiku Bagudu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), reports Leadership.

The court in its ruling on Thursday dismissed  the appeal instituted by Sarki Yarki Bello and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the ruling of the Kebbi State Election Petition Tribunal which dismissed their petitions, which seek to nullify the election of Bagudu.

Delivering the judgment, Justice Monica Bolna’an Dongban-Mensem,said Bello amd PDP did not take all necessary steps to ensure compliance with the time lines provided by the Practice Directions.

The judge averred that the three issues raised by Bello and PDP lacked merit and subsequently struck out the case

The court also asked Bello and the PDP to pay N50 000 each to Bagudu, the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as compensation having wasted their time.
