Maiduguri - The Borno House of Assembly on Tuesday confirmed Usman Durkwa as the new deputy governor of the state.
Speaker of the House, Abdulkarim Lawal, announced the confirmation during the sitting of the House in Maiduguri, the state capital.

Lawal said Gov. Kashim Shettima had forwarded the name of Durkwa as the new deputy governor, for consideration of the House.
He explained that the appointment of Durkwa, followed the death of Zannah Mustapha, in Yola on August 15.
He said the appointment of a substantive deputy governor by the state governor,was in line with the powers conferred on him by section 191 sub section 3 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
