CPC rejects election results in Kaduna polls

05 December 2012, 13:22

Kaduna - The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Kaduna State, has rejected results of last Saturdays local government election in the state.

The party Chairman, Alhaji Ahmadu Yaro-Cocacola said while addressing CPC loyalists in Zaria on Tuesday that the party would contest the results declared by the state Independent Electoral Commission (SIECOM).

He said the party particularly rejects the result declared in respect of Zaria, Sabo-Gari and Ikara Local Governments.

According to him, the election was conducted peacefully in all the areas, but to their dismay the official election materials were not collated by the commission.

"We are not happy with the way SIECOM caused the Kaduna State Government to spent N6 billion on this council election but refused to ensure justice.

"The money spent was meant for those in authority to execute meaningful projects for the benefit of the citizenry. Our mandate was stolen by the PDP," he said.

The chairman also alleged irregularities in Kudan, Makarfi, Lere, Giwa, and Igabi Local Government Areas.

Yaro-Coacola also accused security agencies of active involvement in what he described as 'glaring injustice'.

He presented a copy of petition addressed to the Chairman of the electoral body on the results of the Saturday's poll.

When contacted on phone, the SIECOM Secretary, Umar Umar described the allegation as ``mere fiction'', saying that the commission had followed due process.

He advised aggrieved parties to seek redress in court.
