CPC set to form a formidable opposition party

15 January 2013, 16:06

Abuja - The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) has concluded plans to form a formidable party through alliance and merger talks with other political parties in order to challenge the PDP in 2015.

Its National Chairman, Prince Tony Momoh, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja that the opposition parties were determined to take over power from PDP in 2015.

“The basic fundamental thing that the CPC will be involved in this year is to establish a massive election wining body that will give Nigerians an alternative government,” he said.

Momoh said that the progressive party that would be formed would accept that Nigerians were entitled to welfare and security.

“The party will work for the welfare and security of Nigerians through the commitment to social justice reflected in job creation and development of infrastructure.

“We are going to create an enabling environments in Nigeria like other countries have created. It is only when things are functioning that you can have stability, security, and prosperity,” he said.

According to him, the party will not deprive Nigerians of their welfare and security because the party will not condone indiscipline, corruption and fraud.

“All oppositions of like minds will come together to form a political party that will provide good governance for Nigerians.

“Welfare and security of Nigerians are central to what the opposition party want to give Nigerians, these are some of the things that are lacking in the country,’’ he said.

He said that Nigerians had heard about alliance in the past, but the failure of the past would be the materials for managing the challenges of the present.

Momoh expressed his optimism of the success of the merger before June, adding that Nigerians would smile better at last.

The national chairman said that the party had a lot to do in the area of managing the registration of members, apart from reaching out to political parties of like minds.
