Court bars Agbaje from parading himself as Lagos guber candidate

18 December 2014, 13:08

Lagos - A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Wednesday ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to accept any name as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State, reports National Mirror.

The court gave the directive after it heard an ex-parte application brought by the former Minister of Defence Musiiliu Obanikoro, asking the PDP not to accept the result of the primaries held on December 8 due to the alleged over-voting at the exercise.

The court also ordered the PDP to maintain the status quo on the contentious gubernatorial primary, which produced Jimi Agabaje as the party’s candidate for the 2015 governorship poll.

Obanikoro, a governorship aspirant on Lagos PDP platform, also asked the court not to recognise Agbaje because he joined the party barely six months ago and was morally unfit to contest since the party's National Working Committee (NWC) had not granted him a waiver.
